Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
The Holy Spirit, Our Liberator
Luke 4:16 ~ 4:19

2001-06-07

The Spirit of God created our beautiful universe. The Spirit of God also led the Israelites through the desert. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. After Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came as Comforter and has been working in the Church. What is the ministry of the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit brings good news to the poor. Man was made in God's image and from the beginning, he was rich with blessings-not poor. However, because of Adam's sin and the curse, mankind is born into an abnormal state of poverty. The second Adam, Jesus Christ, became poor for our sakes that through his poverty we might become rich in Him (2 Corinthians 8:9). We all share the same destiny from the curse, but the Holy Spirit came to liberate us from the curse through the blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross (Galatians 3:13; John 14:16-17).

The world is a prisoner of wickedness (born from Adam and Eve), but the Holy Spirit came to liberate us from wickedness and greed, to free prisoners from spiritual darkness (Isaiah 42:7). Greed blinds people to justice and morality (2 Corinthians 4:4). Demons come to tear us down and lead us to evil. But the Son of God appeared-to destroy the devil's work (1 John 3:8; Mark 16:17), and the Holy Spirit brings us new life in Christ (Ephesians 2:2).

The Holy Spirit opens the eyes of the blind. There are two kinds of eyes-physical eyes and spiritual eyes. We were born with spiritually blind eyes. Through the word of Christ, the Holy Spirit sets us free to believe in the Son of God and He opens our spiritual eyes (Romans 10:16-17; John 3:36). In Korean history, many pastors were put in prison because of their faith. As they witnessed about Jesus Christ, spiritually blind eyes were opened and prisoners accepted Christ as their Savior (2 Corinthians 5:17).

The Holy Spirit liberates those who are oppressed. Originally, Adam and Eve were truly free, but they sinned. Since then mankind has been bound in Satan's clutches whether under communism, dictatorship or capitalism. Man has fallen; Satan rules the world with oppression, sickness, and depression. We need to close all the doors and windows of our lives to Satan so he cannot enter. Through the Holy Spirit, we can regain the rights God originally planned for us. God does not want us to suffer under Satan's dictatorship; Christ has set us free (Galatians 5:1; Acts 10:38).

Our ultimate hope and joy is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, when the Holy Spirit liberates the Church and takes us to heaven (Acts 1:8; John 14:1-3).

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to open our blind eyes with Your light and freedom. Help us to continually share You with others.
