Ebenezer
1 Samuel 7:10 ~ 7:12

Samuel was sacrificing a burnt offering to God when the Philistines decided it was a good time to attack. But God performed a great miracle as the Israelites pursued their enemy, and the Philistines were killed. Samuel set up a stone and named it Ebenezer, meaning, "Thus far has the LORD helped us?(1 Samuel 7:12). Our church, Yoido Full Gospel Church, began on May 18, 1958. As we look back on the last 44 years, why has the Lord helped us thus far?

We had a dream. We began with a tent church and only five members. People said our church wouldn't last five years. But they were only looking at circumstances; they didn't see our dream. Dreams are the language of the Holy Spirit. Yoido Full Gospel Church is an Ebenezer church. God has used us and helped us to be strong and courageous in Him (Joshua 1:6).

We had a burning desire to bring people to God. We prayed and fasted morning, noon, and night (Mark 9:29). We passionately and fervently preached the Word wherever we went-in home cell meetings, in the market place, and at work (2 Timothy 4:2).

We lived by faith to make our church great (Hebrews 10:38). We trusted the Bible and called out to God who has given us many miracles in our homes and work places (Romans 8:28; Mark 9:23). God has turned Yoido Full Gospel Church into a miracle, into a great harvest for Him (Galatians 6:7-9). When we pray in faith, plan, and expect, God brings miracles and good gifts to those who ask (Mark 16:17,18; Matthew 7:11).

We received the baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4). He has given us nine gifts of the Spirit. He has become our Business Partner, giving us His intellect, advice, and victory. It is His will that the fruit of the Spirit be produced in the 12 million Christians in Korea (Galatians 5:22,23) and become a spiritual resource-the backbone of the nation.

God has blessed our church because of our efforts in missions, education, and relief work. We pioneered 180 churches in Korea and plan to start 100 new churches every year. We sent out 600 missionaries. I have also preached the Gospel in many nations for the past 38 years, sometimes encountering great danger to my life. We are reaching out for Christ through Hansei University, The Kukmin Daily News, through our NGO, and we've provided 3,144 heart surgeries for children. Thus far has the Lord helped us.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your help during the past 44 years. We must not become tired and weary. Help us to continually renew our strength in You (Isaiah 40:27-31).
