Jesus¡¯ Greatest Concern
1 Peter 2:24

2008-09-21

1 Peter 2:24 (NIV)
"He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness;
by his wounds you have been healed."

Introduction: Jesus' greatest concern was to preach the good news of the kingdom, heal the weak and every kind of disease, cast out demons, and save sinners. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He commanded the 12 apostles and the 70 disciples to do the same work, and He requests all believers to do the same.

1. Humanity and the debt of sin.

1) All people inherited Adam's debt of sin since in their mother's womb (Ps 51:5).
2) In this world, human beings have added more sin to their inherited sin. They will leave this world with inescapable sin.
3) There is no other way but salvation that can cancel such a debt of sin. It is not attainable by our own power (Ac 4:12).
4) Religion teaches good deeds, but God gave His son as a redemptive offering. The wages of sin is death (Mk 10:45).
5) Prophet Isaiah prophesied 500 years before Jesus came (Isa 53:5-8).
6) The real image of Jesus (Isa 52:13-14).
7) Forgiveness, righteousness, and salvation by faith (Ro 3:24; 10:13).

2. Jesus' wounds and healing.

1) Disease is punishment caused by Adam's fall (Ro 5:12).
2) Jesus' wounds (the severity of disease).
¨Ø Disease is not blessing but the object of cleansing and healing (Mk 16:17-18).
¨è The healing of disease is God's resolute will (Mt 8:2-3; Ps 103:3).
¨é Jesus became a sacrifice of the judgment (Isa 53:10).
¨ê Witness of the Holy Spirit and the precious blood—by His wounds we are healed
(Mt 8:17).
¨ë Witness of our mouth (Ro 4:17; Jas 5:15).
- Healing is a universal affair. Healing is of universal significance, because the Creator suffered in
order to heal us. Healing itself is a very important universal affair.
- Healing fulfills God's will and pleases Him.

Conclusion: Jesus suffered in order to fulfill God's will. God wants all of us to be saved, healed, and go to heaven. Through Jesus' wounds and suffering on the Cross, God's will was completely accomplished. The generations before Jesus were not told or did not hear, but we have received the grace of salvation by hearing the message and realizing the truth. Jesus' enemies nailed Him to the Cross, but they never realized that Jesus was the King of kings and the Lord of lords who would "sprinkle" many nations, (spiritually cleanse and purify them through His blood on the Cross), and that kings would shut their mouths because of Him.
