Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
The Universal Event Happened on the Cross
1 Corinthians 1:18 ~ 1:25

2002-05-12

The Muslims say that Jesus Christ didn't die on the Cross; someone pretended to be Jesus, possibly Judas Iscariot. The Jews say Jesus was executed because of His heresy. The Bible says "the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God?(1 Corinthians 1:18-25). Why is the event on the Cross a universal event?

The cross of Jesus Christ revealed the righteousness of God. Man was a masterpiece created in the image of God; He took great joy in man. When Adam and Eve sinned, Satan thought he had destroyed God's plan for mankind. But he didn't know how deeply God loved man. He must have been shocked when God sent His only Son to die on the Cross to pay for man's sin-love beyond measure (John 3:16). Because of the Cross, Satan suffered bitter defeat; he could no longer dominate mankind. This historic event on the Cross revealed God's great love and grace, providing forgiveness of sin and salvation for all mankind-a gift of God (Ephesians 2:7-9).

Through Christ, God defeated the kingdom of Satan. Originally an archangel, Satan (Lucifer) was filled with pride and tried to become greater than God and fell from heaven (Isaiah 14:12-15). Satan was the created; God was the Creator. Created beings can never become greater than the Creator. The Garden of Eden was originally created for Adam and Eve (Ezekiel 28:13-15), but it came under the authority of Satan who fell from heaven. Because of the Cross, however, Satan lost his authority over the world (Revelation 12:10). Jesus offers freedom from the power of Satan (Hebrews 2:14,15).

The condemnation of the Law has been cleared. In the Old Testament, the Israelites were given many laws, but it was impossible to keep all of them. The Law was like a mirror to help one see if he were a sinner. If he didn't observe the Law, he was under a curse (Romans 7:7-9; Galatians 3:10). Christ made it possible to be righteous-not by observing the Law-but by faith in Him (Galatians 2:16). He nailed the Law to the Cross and justified us by His grace (Colossians 2:14; Romans 3:23,24).

We have been delivered from our boastful ways. Abraham's faith in God-like ours-is credited to us as righteousness (Romans 4:1-3,23-25; 5:1,2). We have nothing to boast about. It was Christ and the event on the Cross that destroyed Satan's power, and through faith God has given us the gift of salvation (Ephesians 2:7-9).

Heavenly Father, because of Jesus' unimaginable love and sacrifice on the Cross, we may now partake of salvation through faith in You. We are truly loved beings.
