The Coming of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost
Acts 2:1 ~ 2:4

2008-05-11

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Introduction: The 4,000 years of the Old Testament were in the era of the Father God-Yahweh. And then the Son of God-Jesus-came to earth and lived 33 years to redeem humanity. Fifty days after Jesus´ death on the Cross, the Holy Spirit came to us, and the era of the Holy Spirit has continued for 2,000 years. Today, the Holy Spirit is completing all the work of the Trinity. After the resurrection, Jesus commanded His disciples not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for the Holy Spirit to come.

1. The Holy Spirit, another Counselor (Jn 14:16).
    1) The Holy Spirit is the locomotive, and we are the train.
    2) Jesus and another Counselor.
    3) The meaning of Counselor (Jn 14:18).

2. The ministry of the Holy Spirit.
    1) He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin, righteousness, and judgment
        (Jn 16:8-11).
    2) He helps us realize the truth (Jn 14:26; 1Co 12:3).
    3) He gives us authority (Ac 1:8; 2:4).

3. The gifts of the Holy Spirit.
    1) The gift of revelation (1Co 12:4-7).
    2) The gift of utterance.
    3) The gift of power.
    4) The gift of ministry (Ro 12:6-8).

4. The fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
    1) Fellowship (2Co 13:13; 1Jn 1:3).
    2) Cooperation (Ac 13:1-3).
    3) Unity (Jn 14:20; 17:21).
    4) Fullness (Eph 5:18; Jn 20:21-22).
        - We must have personal cooperation.

Conclusion: Faith is not theoretic or academic. Faith is an experience of meeting God through Jesus and living with God. The Holy Spirit makes this possible. The Holy Spirit is like the wind and dwells within us.
