Train a Child in the Way He Should Go
Proverbs 22:6

2008-05-04

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

Introduction: A potter makes vessels to be used for a noble purpose and vessels for a trivial purpose. Just as clay is formed in the hands of a potter, children are raised in the hands of their parents through education. All children grow to become a person with good character. Good or bad education absolutely influences the shaping of a child´s character.

1. Children grow feeding on love.
    1) Pediatricians at a children´s hospital should repeatedly stroke and cuddle their little
patients. Otherwise, the death rate will increase.
    2) Hug and caress your children as often as possible. Then they will find peace and
        comfort.
        - Kids were crying with fear at the Holt Orphanage (Mk 10:13-16).

2. Teach them first about God and Jesus.
    1) All humankind have an archetype that seeks God - Open the eyes of the archetype
        (Ecc 3:11).
    2) Let your children attend Sunday and family worship services.
        - What is learned in the cradle is carried to the tomb (Dt 6:6-7; Pr 22:6).

3. Raise them to have good character.
    - The foundation of one´s character is formed between the ages of 0~6.
    1) An impression from parents (1Ti 4:12-13).
    2) Do not abuse physical punishment to correct your children.
Otherwise, their hearts may be warped with anger and hatred.
First, make them understand, sympathize, and admonish them, and then punish
        them (Eph 6:4).

4. Treat them like a person.
    1) Consider them to be an object for conversation (Mt 18:10).
    2) Do not overprotect them - Children grow, learning from errors and painful
        consequences (Pr 23:13-14; 29:15).
    3) Develop their special qualities and skills (Col 2:3; Pr 16:9).
    4) Do not make them a scapegoat for the parents´ greed and desires.

5. Always pray for them.
Most of the world´s great people had a mother who supported them through prayer
    (La 2:18-19; Lk 23:28; Dt 28:12-13).

Conclusion: Raising children is the most important task in life. The Bible says that children are an inheritance from the Lord.
