Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Forgive Us Our Debts
Matthew 6:12

2007-09-02

Introduction: The origin of the word sin is hamartia. It means you go astray. In other words, you shot at a target, but the arrow missed the mark. Adam disobeyed the will of God and ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge. That is how the original sin began. After this, not only the relationship with God but also the relationship with humankind went astray. As a result, the lives of humankind are full of sin. They trying to find a solution for sin and punishment through many different religions, but it is impossible for them to solve the problem of sin.

1. The wages of sin is death.
    1) All are sinners, so all are destined to die (Ro 3:23, 10; 6:23).
    2) God sent Jesus Christ as a man without sin to become a sin offering (Isa 53:5-6).
    3) Forgiveness and a right relationship.
¨ç The relationship of forgiveness through repentance before God
            (Ps 32:5; 1Jn 1:9).
¨è The relationship of salvation from judgment by believing in Jesus Christ
            (Jn 3:16-17).

2. To live righteously all one´s life.
    1) After we are saved, we still commit sin against our will (Ro 7:21-23).
    2) The conditions to be forgiven by God.
¨ç Forgive your neighbor who sins against you (Mt 18:21-22).
¨è The story of a man who owed ten thousand talents and a man who owed a
             hundred denarii (Mt 18:23-34).
¨é Forgiveness is the condition for our prayers to be answered
            (Mt 6:14-15; Mk 11:25).

3. Why are we confined to the invisible prison?
    1) When we cannot pray, spiritually oppressed and thirsty (Pr 10:12; 19:11).
    2) When our heart is terrified, oppressed, troubled, saddened, and displeased
        (Ps 107:10-11; Pr 17:22).
    3) When we suffer from psychogenic disease, headache, indigestion, insomnia,
        and skin disease.
        - Doctors say 60-70% of our disease comes from our heart (Mt 18:35; Col 3:12-14).

Conclusion : To be forgiven of our debts, to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and to have a good relationship with God, we must repent of our sin and live our daily life with forgiveness, love, gentleness, and humility.
