The Reasons We Can Be Strong and Courageous
Isaiah 41:10

2007-04-01

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Introduction : David was strong and courageous. Even lions and bears fell down before his strong and courageous faith. Even a giant Philistine warrior, Goliath, fell before David, the 17-year-old youngster. This was not because David had power and strength. As the last son of Jesse, David was not the favorite child in his family. But God chose David and loved him because of his strong and courageous faith. If we fully understand our relationship to God, we can also be like David.

1. Do not fear, for I am with you.
¡Ý What are you looking at-fear or God?
    1) God is (Ps 91:2-6).
        (1) A refuge (Ps 91:2).
        (2) God who saves (Ps 91:3).
        (3) Reasons not to fear (Ps 91:5-7).
    2) God is always with us-like a hen that is always with her chicks (Ps 91:4).

2. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
¡Ý What is the relationship between God and me?
    1) Yahweh-Jireh (The LORD Will Provide) (Ge 22:13-14).
    2) Yahweh-Rapha (The LORD, who heals) (Ex 15:26; 23:25; Mal 4:2).
    3) Yahweh-Nissi (The LORD is my Banner) (Ex 17:15-16; Ps 24:8).
    4) Yahweh-Shalom (The LORD is Peace) (Jdg 6:24; Ps 29:11; Job 22:21).
    5) Yahweh-Roi (The LORD is my shepherd) (Ps 23:1; 28:9).
    6) Yahweh-Tsidkenu (The LORD Our Righteousness) (Jer 23:5-6).
    7) Yahweh-Mekadishekem (The LORD, who makes you holy) (Ex 31:13; Lev 20:8).
    8) Yahweh-Sammah (THE LORD IS THERE) (Eze 48:35; Rev 21:3-4).

3. I will strengthen you (2Co 4:7-10).
    1) I will not be surrounded (Ps 37:39-40).
    2) I will not be disheartened (Ps 37:24).
    3) I will not be forsaken (Ps 37:28).
    4) I will not fail (Heb 13:5-6).

4. I will help you.
    1) When I walk through the valley of the shadow of death-through the rod and staff
        (Ps 23:4).
    2) In the presence of my enemies-a table of the choicest food (Ps 23:5).
    3) God will save all humankind (Ps 103:1-5).

5. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
¡Ý The grace of redemption on the Cross
    1) A righteous hand that redeemed us from our sins (Eph 1:7; Ro 8:33).
    2) The hand of power which holds us with love-a hand of forgiveness,
holiness, healing, blessing, and eternal heaven (Isa 53:5; Ro 8:32).

Conclusion : The only way to come out of life in the swamp is to live a positive life. This is done by being born again through forgiveness at the Cross, while completely forgetting our past and running toward the bosom of the grace of God.
