Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Bound by Your Own Trap
Proverbs 6:2

2006-07-16

Introduction : An old Chinese proverb says, "Ja Seong Ja Bak." That means bound by your own trap. If you bind your body by your own trap before the enemy, you will become the prey of the enemy. The Bible says, "¡¦if you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth¡¦." The Bible also says, "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." That means, if our own trap on earth binds us, the same will happen in heaven as well.

1. Binding yourself with your thoughts
    1) If we think we are a sinner, we will bind ourself with the strength of sin. We will also
bind ourself by our own trap if we think we cannot win over secularism and the devil
        (Ro 8:1-2; Jas 1:14-15).
    2) If we think we cannot overcome disease, we will become like a slave to disease by
binding ourself by our own trap (Pr 17:22).
    3) If we think we are incompetent, a failure, a poor person, or a loser, we will bind
ourself by our own trap with our thoughts.
        - The thoughts of humankind will determine their destiny. Therefore, we cannot
gain victory without positive thoughts (Pr 4:23; Job 3:25).

2. Binding yourself with your self-image
    - People always look at themselves in a mirror.
    - They should not fail to recognize themselves.
¢Á In 1900, Kate Cooper was doing missionary work in Wonsan in North Korea.
A countrywoman visited the missionary´s home, and she was very shocked and
screamed when she saw her own face in a mirror. She said, "Missionary, someone
is hiding inside this wall. Who is this woman?" That was the first time she had ever
seen her face, and she did not recognize herself. People will bind themselves by
their own trap if they see themselves the wrong way (3Jn 1:2).
    1) Do not look at yourself as a slave to sin, secularism, and the devil. You will become
a slave to them as you visualized (Gal 5:1).
    2) Do not look at yourself as a patient. You will become a slave to that disease as you
        visualized (1Pe 2:24).
    3) Do not look at yourself as a poor person, incompetent, or not blessed. You will bind
yourself by your own trap (Gal 3:13-14).
        - People bind themselves through the principle of looking (Nu 13:33; 14:9).

3. Binding yourself with your faith
    - The Bible says, "It will be as you believe."
    1) Do not believe that sin, the world, and the devil are very strong. Faith is a rope that
        ties itself (1Jn 4:4).
    2) Do not believe that you will suffer, become disabled, or die. That will cause you to
bind yourself by your own trap (Mk 5:34).
    3) If you believe that you cannot succeed or get out of poverty, they will happen to you
        (Dt 28:12-14).

4. Binding yourself with the words of your mouth
    - Our tongue has the power of life and death (Pr 18:20-21).
    1) If you speak the words of sin and secularism, you will be bound by sin and
        secularism (Eph 5:4-5).
    2) If you continue to speak about disease, disease will never leave you (Ps 103:3-5).
    3) If you continue to speak about your poverty, you will be caught by that net
        (2Co 8:9; 9:8).

Conclusion : In many cases, people say, "That is destiny." However, they make that destiny themselves. In other words, their own trap binds them. We bind ourself by our thoughts, our self-image, by our faith, and by the words of our mouth.
