Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
The Potter and the Clay
Isaiah 64:8

2005-08-28

Introduction : The Bible says, "God is the potter and we are the clay." The potter can make beautiful pottery with good clay. Our ancestors used the best techniques to make pottery. Goryeo celadon and Yi Dynasty white porcelain is still world famous and a great work of art. During the Japanese invasion of Korea, many Korean potters were brought over to Japan by force, and that´s how Japan has developed into becoming the best nation in producing pottery.

1. The clay that the potter seeks
    - According to a TV program, those Korean potters had a hard time to make good
pottery in Japan, because they could not find good clay
    1) We are the clay chosen by God personally - Not just anyone can become the people
of heaven, just like we cannot make good pottery with just any clay
        (Ro 9:15-16, Ro 9:11)
    2) Bring chosen clay into the factory and wash it
        (1) Call chosen people to the church (2Ti 1:9, Jn 15:26, 6:44, Eph 1:4, Col 1:13)
        (2) Gives us repentance and cleansing through the precious blood and God´s Word
            (Mk 1:15, Lk 5:32, 1Jn 1:7, Eph 5:26)

2. In order to make a pot
    1) We must make the clay very soft (Ps 51:17, Heb 12:11)
    2) Mix it with a certain quantity of water and make it sticky - The water of obedience
and the Word of God makes it sticky (1Sa 15:22, 1Pe, 1:14-15)
    3) The clay placed on a potter´s wheel - The pottery of heaven is shaped by God´s will
        (Ro 9:21, Heb 13:21, Mt 6:10, Ro 8:28-29, Eph 2:22)

3. He puts it into a furnace and bakes it
    1) The furnace of trials
        - The clay that has not been baked will break easily (1Pe 1:24, Jas 4:14)
We can obey and become a strong believer through trials (1Pe 4:12-13, Jas 1:3-4)
    2) The furnace of the Holy Spirit
        - Become the Christian that emits the light of faith, hope, love, righteousness, peace,
and happiness, and they are dispatched all over the world, carrying the glory of
           God (1Co 2:9-10, 1Pe 1:7, 2Co 4:17, Ro 5:3-4, Eph 3:10-11, 1Pe 2:9)

Conclusion : (Ro 9:23-24)
We must always give thanks to God, because God has chosen deserted humankind who was just like clay, and He molds us as beautiful pottery of heaven, filled with the glory of heaven. We must become pottery always devoted to Him as He molds us.
