Jesus Calmed the Waves
Matthew 8:23 ~ 8:34

2005-07-31

Introduction : We experience the wind and waves of the sea and a rainstorm in the land at least a few times per year, as they are natural phenomena. However, there are some waves and storms that are not natural phenomena, and they are the waves and storms we face during our life. When we face waves and storms, we must see the inside of our lives very carefully. In addition, all Christians must find out why these waves and storms came into our lives. Today, we would like to learn a lesson through the lives of Jesus´ disciples who faced unusual waves and storms that were not natural phenomena.

1. The disciples made Jesus fall asleep
    1) The story of a man and a woman who walked at an interval along the streamlet
Finally, the man and woman got separated, because the streamlet became a river
        and an ocean
    2) The distance between Jesus and the disciples
        (1) The disciples had a spiritual relationship
        (2) A gap was caused between the Lord and the disciples when an earthly relation-
             ship came into them
        (3) Jesus and the disciples were in a different world

2. Those things in the world that tempt us
    1) Greed - You shall have no other gods before me. Greed is an idol that takes away
        our concern about God
    2) Pride - You shall not bow down to an idol. Pride makes an idol of self
    3) Disbelief - Not respecting the Word of God
    4) Disobedience - Self becomes the master and leaves the position of a servant

3. When the world comes into us, the waves arise
    1) The devil will attack when the world isolates disciples from the Lord
    2) The wind and waves cannot be calmed with secularism humanism
    3) Repentance
        (1) Leave and get rid of greed, pride, disbelief and disobedience
        (2) Seek for the Lord and wake up the Lord
        (3) Be a new person created with holiness through righteousness and truth
        (4) The wind and waves will disappear when the Lord wakes up

4. Jesus drove out demons
    1) Demons made the wind and waves - The Lord drove them out
    2) When we repent and come back to the Lord, He will drive out demons in our family,
in our church, and in our society.

Conclusion : When an earthly thing comes in, we will be affected with the disease of greed, pride, disbelief and disobedience. We will become estranged from the Lord and face winds and waves. Repenting of our sin, recovering our first love for God and newly accepting the Lord is the only way to be saved. Then we can drive out heavy waves and demons.
