Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Drive Out Demons
Luke 8:22 ~ 8:35

2005-05-29

Introduction : Jesus spent two thirds of His ministry healing the sick, and the most part of it in driving out demons. He considered that driving out demons was a great ministry. He told His twelve disciples, seventy disciples, and all believers to drive out demons in His name. Why should we consider that driving out demons is important?

1. A storm and the demons
    1) A storm on the Sea of Galilee
    2) Jesus rebuked the wind and the sea
        - it signifies that there was a personal being behind them (Lk 8:24)
    3) The storm of life and the power behind it
        (1) Daniel´s vision (Da 10:12-14, 20; Eph 6:12)
        (2) The political storm
            a. Hitler    b. the imperialism of Japan    c. communism
            - It is Jesus who can subdue the political storm, and it is the prayer of believers
               that can move Jesus´ hand.

2. A man of Gerasenes and the demons called "Legion"
    1) An ordinary and kind man
    2) The storm of the mind - clothes: symbolizing courtesy, staying home: antisocial
        - a demon driven out to death (cemetery) : he faced physical and mental destruction.
    3) The freedom and liberty that Jesus gave
        - recovered individuals, recovered families, comfortable neighbors (Lk 8:35)
    4) Today people are troubled with the storm of the mind
        - obscenity, debauchery, drunkenness, gambling, drug abuse, and murder.

3. Drive out demons (Mk 16:17; Lk 10:19-20)
    1) The figure of a demon - a snake and a scorpion
    2) Authority and power - Dunamis, Exusia
        - Enemies have power, and believers have authority.
    3) The authority of believers
        (1) The Bible
        (2) The fullness of the Holy Spirit
        (3) A clean life
        (4) Prayer and resisting

Conclusion : No one but Jesus can subdue a storm (Gal 5:1).
