The Vine and the Branches
John 15:1 ~ 15:8

2004-02-08

Introduction : Jesus said, "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener." God is doing the farming of humankind through Jesus. Of course, God is the almighty gardener and Jesus is the best vine. However, the vine bears fruit through weak branches who are all believers. Therefore, the lifestyle of saints who are the branches must be thoroughly trained to bear abundant fruit.

1. The relationship between the vine and the branches.
    1) The vine holding the branches - Jesus is holding us (Eph 1:4,5; Jn 15:1).
    2) The branches feel safe in any rainstorm if the vine is strong enough.
We can always feel safe with our strong Jesus (Mt 28:18-20; Jn 10:28).

2. The vine does the work.
    1) The vine takes nourishment from the soil and supplies it to the branches.
Jesus supplies every grace (Jn 15:4; Ps 34:9).
Calvary´s cross is the root of the vine of Jesus.
        (1) The grace of righteousness (Ro 5:9).
        (2) The grace of the fullness of the Holy Spirit (1 Co 6:11).
        (3) The grace of healing (Ex 15:26; 1 Pe 2:24).
        (4) The grace of prosperity (2 Co 8:9; Ps 1:3).
        (5) The grace of the resurrection and heaven (Ro 8:1-4).
    2) The branches should completely rely on the vine to blossom and bear fruit.
We must completely depend upon the Lord to receive the grace of the Cross
        (Jn 15:5).

3. Ask whatever you wish.
If you install a water pump on the ground, you must work the pump to get water
    (Jn 15:7,8).
    1) Dream - Open wide your mouth wide and I will fill it (Ps 81:10).
    2) Believe (Mt 21:22).
Commit your burdens to the Lord (Ps 68:19).
    3) Cry out and pray (Jer 29:12,13; 33:2,3).
    4) Proclaim in the affirmative (Pr 6:2; 18:21; Mk 9:23; Php 4:13).

Conclusion : God wants our lives to be blessed with abundant fruit. Surely we can be blessed, because we are attached to the best Vine with the best Gardener.
