Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Getting a Wife for Isaac
Genesis 24:1 ~ 24:9

2004-02-01

Introduction : Abraham sent his servant Eliezer to Mesopotamia to get a wife for Isaac.

1. Abraham and a wife for Isaac.
    1) Abraham symbolizes God; Isaac, Jesus; his wife, the saints.
        (1) Abraham gave all his possessions to Isaac.
God gave all the authority of heaven and earth to Jesus
             (Mt 28:18-20; Heb 1:3).
        (2) Isaac symbolizes Jesus.
As Isaac became an offering at Moriah, so did Jesus on the Cross (Php 2:5-11).
        (3) A wife for Isaac.
She was to inherit from Abraham with Isaac.
She symbolizes the saints who are co-heirs with Christ to inherit all from God
             (Ro 8:16,17; Eph 2:6; Tit 3:6,7).

2. The servant Eliezer set out for Mesopotamia.
    1) Eliezer symbolizes the Holy Spirit; his attendants, angels (Ge 24:10,11; Jn 14:26).
    2) The condition of a virgin to be a wife for Isaac (Ge 24:14).
        (1) She should give the servant a drink - the relationship with the Holy Spirit
             (Ac 2:38,39; 2 Co 13:13).
        (2) She should water the camels, too.
Drawing water for ten camels is a test of love, patience, and devotion
             (Jas 1:2-4,12; 1 Pe 1:6,7).

3. Eliezer was absorbed in boasting about his master.
    1) The Holy Spirit makes God the Father and Jesus known
        (Ge 24:34-38; Jn 16:13,14; 1 Co 1:18).
    2) Rebekah´s decision (Ge 24:55-58).
The saints who would enter heaven should accept Jesus as their Savior, and give up
the world and the things that belong to it (1 Jn 2:15; 2 Th 2:16,17).
    3) The presents carried by the camels (Ge 24:53; 1 Co 2:9,10; Ps 112:1-3).
Not only Rebekah but also all of her family received presents.
Owing to believers, God blesses their whole country (Ps 33:12,13; Ge 12:3; Gal 3:9).
    4) Rebekah went to Isaac on the camels that she watered
         (Ro 5:3-5; Ge 24:61; Gal 6:9; Rev 22:17).

Conclusion : For 2,000 years since Pentecost until now, the Holy Spirit has been looking for a wife for Jesus and preparing to take her to Him. Preparing ourselves as brides with love, patience, and devotion through various trials, we have to be ready to leave.
