Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Where There is Love, There is a Solution
Romans 5:3 ~ 5:8

2001-10-09

This world has endless hatred, conflicts, and wars. The September 11 attacks on America have shocked the whole world. How can such vicious, unimaginable attacks happen? We can find the answer in the fall of man - in the sin of Adam and Eve.

Let us look at Adam's depravity and the corrupt human mind. Adam disobeyed God and ate of the fruit from the tree. When God asked Adam, "Who told you to eat of the tree?" Adam blamed God and replied, "The woman you put here with me..." (Genesis 3:12-13). Adam should have repented then, but he blamed God and Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent (Satan). Cain, their firstborn son even killed his brother Abel. This is the nature of the fallen human race. All people are selfish. The corrupt mind says, "I am OK; others are not." The character of fallen man was brought upon all mankind by the sin of Adam and Eve. What are the solutions to such depravity?

There is no solution except love. Only the power of sacrificial love can help people abandon selfishness and self-righteousness. In New York, it was the power of love for mankind that motivated firemen, policemen, and volunteers to put their own lives in danger to help others. It was love and reverence for life that compelled Dr. Albert Schweitzer to leave his comfortable home and go to Africa, build a hospital, and practice medicine. It was love that motivated Mother Teresa to go to Calcutta to sacrifice her life for the poorest of the poor and donate her Nobel Prize money to aid the needy in India. During the Korean War, both sons of a Korean pastor were killed. The pastor was arrested during the war, and he met the man responsible for the death of his two sons. After the war the pastor adopted the man and sent him to seminary!

The greatest love is the love of God who sacrificed His only son on the cross of Calvary. In Gethsemane Jesus Christ was greatly sorrowful and troubled as He thought about His forthcoming crucifixion (Matthew 26:36-38; Mark 14:33-34) but said to His Father, "Not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42-44). Christ's sacrificial love on the cross provided forgiveness of sin and a solution to the evil in this world. When we accept the love of the cross into our hearts, we can overcome selfishness and self-righteousness (Galatians 2:20; Philippians 2:5-8), and demonstrate sacrificial love for one another (Romans 5:5; Hebrews 12:2-3; 1 Corinthians 13:1-8). Every person needs to be filled with the love of Jesus Christ - the only solution to world peace.

Heavenly Father, only the love of Jesus Christ can bring a solution to the needs of people worldwide. Help each one of us to continually demonstrate Your love to others.
