Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Jesus and the Thief
John 10:10

2001-08-16

Satan is a thief! Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full"(John 10:10). In this physical world, through our five senses we are robbed of peace and joy, health, and good relationships, and we blame people and circumstances for our conflicts. However, we must look with our spiritual eyes to see that it is Satan and his evil spiritual world that controls the physical world. Ephesians 6:10-12 identifies these spiritual forces and encourages us to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.

What is the purpose of the thief's coming? It is clearly to steal, kill, and destroy-never to help us. Look at Job, a sincere and honest man who loved God. Satan told God that Job worshipped Him just so he would be blessed. But God knew Job's true heart and devotion to Him. He allowed Satan to tempt Job but to spare his life. What did Satan the thief do to Job? He inflicted boils on him; his wife betrayed him and told him to curse God and die; a storm destroyed his house and nearly everyone in it; fire fell from heaven and destroyed his sheep; his cows were taken; and his friends forsook him (Job 2:7-9; 3:20-26). Satan was the evil spiritual force behind all of Job's suffering, just as he is the source of all our destroyed relationships and evil in the world today.

The purpose why Jesus came was to bring good things to those who believe in Him, whereas Satan only brings calamity. Our obedience to God's commands results in His blessings to us: in the fruit of our womb, crops, land, and livestock; our enemies will be defeated; it will go well with us and our children; tithing will bring blessing; sickness will be taken away and we'll have a full life span; and when we worship God He will bless our food and water (Deuteronomy 4:40; 5:29; 8:18; 28:4-6; Exodus 23:25-26; Malachi 3:10-12). God will give us great fruit and blessing if we obey Him.

What blessings are available to New Testament believers? Christ rescued us from Satan's dominion, providing redemption and forgiveness from sin (Colossians 1:13-14; Romans 8:1-2). He works for us in our daily lives (Isaiah 53:4). We're on Jesus' side-The winning side! We can stand firm in the faith (1 Peter 5:8-9; James 4:7), and in the name of Jesus Christ we can command the thief, "Satan, be gone from our homes. Be gone from our businesses. Be gone from our lives." Let us face spiritual challenges by knowing who our thief really is and by knowing and trusting our Defender-Jesus Christ!

Heavenly Father full of love, Satan still comes to us today to attack us. There is a spiritual war going on, but we are in Your hands even though Satan tries to destroy us.
