Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Life Prescribed, Life in Flux
Psalms 123:1 ~ 123:4

2002-12-15

Christians believe that God is the Creator of the universe-the absolute authority. They also believe that God has given them their very existence and that they should live according to God's prescribed plan. Atheists and humanists do not acknowledge the existence of God, and they believe that people must direct their own lives rather than having any help or direction from God. They depend on their own human wisdom and knowledge, thinking they can solve all of life's problems. But people who have lived for at least 40 years realize there is a destiny that simply cannot be directed by any power of mankind. We do not have full command of our lives; there are some things we cannot change. We walk down a path in life already determined by God.

Adam's ignorance and failure. Adam failed to understand that his very life belonged to God and that he needed to live according to God's prescribed plan-to worship Him and to care for the Garden of Eden. Satan deceived Adam into thinking Adam could be the master of his own life. As a result, because of sin Adam and Eve were driven from the Garden; it was impossible to live a blessed life Romans 3:10-12,23). Following the renaissance, mankind believed that he could create a Utopia, a paradise through rationalism and through science. He failed miserably, producing weapons of mass destruction. Mankind does not have full control of his life (Psalm 49:12).

Life of Christ. Christ lived a life prescribed by God. He did not try to plan His own life. God planned it from Christ's birth and baptism (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:22,23). He planned Christ's baptism at the age of 30 (Luke 3:21-23) as well as His 40 days of fasting and praying and the temptations of Satan (Matthew 4:1,2). God arranged everything: Christ's birth, His life, His teaching and miracles, and His death and resurrection-all according to God's will (John 7:28,29; 12:49,50; Mark 8:31). Adam betrayed God when he tried to live according to his own will, and he became a slave to sin. Jesus gave up His own life and followed God's prescribed life.

The need to live a life prescribed by God. God determines the lives of mankind (Hebrews 3:4; Psalm 139:16). God determined Abraham's life (Genesis 12:1-3; Hebrews 11:8; 1 Corinthians 2:9); He has also planned our lives. God provides the ability and strength to follow Him (Proverbs 19:21; Ephesians 3:20; Philippians 4:13), and He rewards those who are obedient to Him (Proverbs 16:9; Psalm 37:5; Revelation 22:12,13). We will elect a new president on December 19. God holds our future and the future of South Korea. Let us ask God to show us whom He has chosen.

Heavenly Father, You have prescribed a plan for our lives and our nation. We wait on You for guidance as we elect our new president.
