Such a Man Will Bear Much Fruit
John 15:1 ~ 15:8

2002-10-13

In the Bible, there are many parables that describe the relationship between God, Jesus, and us. The parable in John 15:1-8 gives us great understanding and grace.

The relationship between God, Jesus, and us. The world is the vineyard, and Jesus is the true vine planted in this world. God is the gardener, and Christians are the branches grafted into Jesus the vine. The fruit that Jesus bears is the fruit of saving souls (1 Timothy 2:4; Romans 3:23,24) and healing (Exodus 15:26; Matthew 8:17). Through Jesus Christ, God has given us the fruit of eternal life (1 John 5:11,12). Jesus is the true vine, and He bears the fruit of evangelism through Christians-the branches (Matthew 13:8). God the Father cuts off the dead branches that bear no fruit, and cleans the branches that bear fruit so they may bear more fruit. He makes us repent and become godly and faithful through the Holy Spirit and the Word.

Remain in Me. After we believe in Christ and are forgiven, we receive eternal life and the power to remain in Christ and have a good relationship with the Church-the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:16). We should be baptized in water (Acts 2:38), participate in the communion service (John 6:54-56), attend worship services, and be nurtured by the Word (John 4:24). We should love, worship, and serve the Lord (John 14:23).

I will remain in you. Through the unity of redemption on the Cross, we are one body-one unit with Christ (Romans 6:3-11). We died with Him; we were resurrected with Him; we live with Him (Galatians 2:20). He remains in us through the fullness of the Holy Spirit (1 John 3:24). By receiving the Word, we know Jesus is alive and living in our hearts (John 1:3,14).

No branch can bear fruit by itself. What is the relationship between the branch and the vine? The vine sustains the branch and provides water and nourishment. The branch completely depends on the vine for survival and bearing fruit. Jesus holds us; this is the relationship between Jesus and us (John 10:28,29). He pours on us the grace of redemption through the Cross (John 10:10). Therefore, we must totally trust and depend on Jesus (Matthew 11:28), and He will provide. Let us ask for His grace (John 15:7,8,16). Jesus said in John 15:5, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." As branches, we will bear much fruit if we remain in Jesus the true vine.

Heavenly Father, help us to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit for Your kingdom.
