God's Thoughts and Our Thoughts, God's Ways and Our Ways
Isaiah 55:8 ~ 55:9

2002-10-06

Our thoughts reflect our character. He who thinks about evil is evil, and he who thinks about good is good. Since unbelievers think about physical things, they are of the flesh, but since believers think about spiritual things, they are of the Spirit (Romans 8:5-8). If we think about evil, our minds are hostile to God. But if we accept Jesus and think in accordance with His will, we can please God.

God's thoughts and our thoughts. God's thoughts are higher than human thinking. Because of our sin, we think of punishment, but God's thinking is for us to be forgiven by faith in Jesus through His shed blood on the Cross (Ephesians 1:7; 2 Thessalonians 2:13). A sick person thinks only of doctors and medicine. But God's thoughts are for us to be healed through Christ's wounds for us on the Cross (Isaiah 53:4,5; 1 Peter 2:24). When mankind dies, he thinks he just goes to the soil. God's thinking is for us to have eternal life in heaven with Him (John 11:25; 14:1-3). If we accept God's thoughts, our lives will be changed (2 Corinthians 10:4,5; Romans 12:2).

David accepted God's thoughts. As a shepherd boy, David gained great confidence and courage in the Lord when He helped him kill the lion and the bear (1 Samuel 17:36). When the Israelites and the Philistines were in battle for 40 days, Goliath challenged a combat to defy the armies of Israel. David, a teenager, accepted the challenge to slay the giant Goliath, a man over 3 meters tall (10 ¨öfeet). Israel's King Saul thought David could not fight Goliath since David was only a boy. Goliath thought he could defeat David (1 Samuel 17:42-44,45-47). But David's thoughts were on the Lord, "If God is with me, I can be victorious."Without armor or a sword, David put a stone in his sling, hit Goliath in the forehead and killed the giant.

God's ways and our ways are different. When the Red Sea and the Egyptian armies surrounded the Israelites, they were terrified (Exodus 14:10-11,16-17). Should they build a bridge, use a boat, swim, or just give in and be killed? God thinks of and creates unsearchable things we do not know (Jeremiah 33:3; Exodus 15:19). Moses obeyed the Lord's thoughts and led the Israelites to walk through the sea on dry ground! Philip thought it impossible to feed thousands in the desert in Bethsaida (John 6:4-13). But Andrew thought about Jesus and gave Him a boy's lunch with five small barley loaves and two small fishes. Jesus blessed it and the lunch fed 5,000 men! We don't have to understand God's thoughts and ways-just accept them by faith and follow Him (Deuteronomy 28:9-13; Isaiah 55:6-13). God can create a way where there is no way.

Heavenly Father, through Your Word, help us change our thinking and follow Your ways.
